N1Records 2015: Apply NOW!
Applications for N1Records 2015 are now open.
Thanks to ArtsSA and The City of Playford 2015 will be the third year N1Records, an artist development program, will be running from The Northern Sound System in Adelaide, SA.
N1Records recognizes aims to meet the needs of emerging and practicing artists by providing project management, mentoring and financial support.
Applications are open from Tues March 11th until Fri May 15th. These will be assessed by a panel of music industry reps from SA and auditions will be offered to the strongest applicants.
Different from previous years which delivered a standard set of outcomes to its artists, N12015 will focus very much on each individual artist to identify and achieve a specific goal: get tighter, put together a band, tour interstate, record an EP, release an EP, film a suite of film clips, grow an industry network...whatever it is, N1 wants to help artists create a strong platform for growth.
“There’s no shortage of talented artists in SA, that’s not the issue, it’s a matter of resources and experience. Inexperienced artists are caught beneath a glass ceiling, a variety of them even. Those with experience, or finance to create experience need to be helping SA artists break through these ceilings.” Says Nick O’Connor, Project Officer at NSS for N1Records. “Some world class music based organizations and artist development activities are happening here in SA: Soundpond, five four entertainment, Pilot Records, The Stigwood Fellowship Program, Moving Music!, Art of Rhyme to name just a few. It’s a great time to be a young artist, and a great time to be in artist development. SA’s looking pretty fine right now.”
It’s hard to ignore the astronomical success of 2013 N1Artist TKay Maidza who’s rise to the top of Australia’s musical consciousness seemed to happen overnight. Maidza, a hardworking and naturally wonderful individual was looking for her next move. Signed to N1 her vocal takes found their way to Badcop, an Adelaide electro producer, who provided TKay with her first two singles ‘Handle my ego’ and ‘Brontosaurus’. The hype and attention these tracks created required management so N1 enlisted five four entertainment who stepped in and eventually signed a management deal with Maidza. This relationship that has seen Maidza flourish into a national festival circuit fixture, triple J darling and the most promising international export Australia’s seen in a while.
